a very friendly FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL.  A family event. :-)

Memorial Day Weekend  at Saratoga County Fairgrounds  - Ballston Spa, NY
google map

The weekend features concerts and workshops on Saturday and Sunday during the day; a family country dance on Saturday night, a PSG open stage Sunday afternoon, and an a capella sing Sunday night.  New for our growing audience, we have a new generation folk concert FRIDAY NIGHT with some great up-and-coming talent.  GottaGetGon audiences like to be part of the music, so performers not only have the opportunity to showcase their music, but can count on enthusiastic participation as well.

Low chair
Bring a (low) folding chair, perhaps a sweater. (We have 2 good food vendors this year.)
All events are in covered buildings. Rain is never a problem.

Concert

Abbie Gardner w/Jon Paul
Abbie Gardner, the fiery Dobro player with an infectious smile has been touring with Americana darlings Red Molly for the past eleven years. After gracing stages from Denver to Denmark, from Australia to Austin, the band decided to take an indefinite hiatus in 2015, so Abbie is striking out on her own!
"Abbie Gardner shows her prodigious writing chops in her album, Hope. Tales of love and loss, both gritty and sweet, ride the back of her by-now familiar, formidable slide guitar licks. She channels Lucinda and Bonnie, but remains pure Abbie."

Tom Lewis
Tom is a 24-year veteran of Her Majesty's Royal Naval diesel submarines; although now he's comfortably located on dry land. His songs cover a wide range of nautical topics, from life on board H.M. ships, through the loneliness and lure of the sea, to traditional shanties and classic nautical poetry, set to his own, and others' melodies. Often accompanying himself with button accordion or ukulele, expect also a recounting of a very funny perhaps randy tale.

Josh White, Jr.
Josh White, Jr., became, a 'hit' literally over night at the age of four, by performing with his legendary father JOSH WHITE one night at New York's famed "Café Society" night club (America's first integrated nightclub). In the wake of America's tragedy on September 11, 2001, Gateway Records recorded Josh performing two of his father's patriotic and civil rights classics, "The House I Live In," and "Free and Equal Blues," for their 2002 compilation release "CELEBRATE AMERICA." Concurrently, with that release Josh White, Jr., was the first artist authorized and invited to sing a set of inspirational songs at New York’s hallowed Ground Zero site.

Bob Amos & daughter Sarah sing wonderful harmonies, Bob plays banjo, guitar along with Freeman Corey on fiddle, Bob Dick (formerly of Front Range) on bass, Gary Darling on mandolin and Steve Wright on guitar. (Chris Cruger will be on bass for select shows). The band puts on a very entertaining high energy show, with stellar vocals, terrific original material, plus some great new interpretations of some bluegrass classics.
